UROLOGY - NEPHROLOGY

Is your pet urinating or drinking more than usual? Is its urine an abnormal colour? Is it painful to pass urine? Is your pet not clean as usual?
All these signs may point to urinary dysfunction. Urology deals with problems of the lower urinary tract (bladder, prostate, urethra) and nephrology with the upper urinary tract (kidneys and ureters).
The most common conditions are cystitis, urinary stones and kidney disease.

Additional tests are often necessary to identify the cause of the problem:

  • Urinalysis (urine density, dipstick, proteinuria measurement)
  • Blood tests (renal markers such as creatinine, SDMA, uraemia measurement)
  • Imaging: abdominal X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy.
